I'm looking for a set of very rare Super V8 "Solar" wheels for my XJ12. I got an email from someone in UK claiming to be working for a Jaguar Parts Dealer. He tried to get me to send a Western Union transfer. He wouldn't send photos, or let me send a friend to look at the wheels.
A pretty obvious scam, but I'll bet I'm not the only one he's gone after.

Scam Artists going after JCNA Wanted Ads
I've been contacted by a set of scamers who responded to my ad for some custom wheels. They were very anxious to make the transaction and were willing to send me a "check" right away. They claimed that they had their own shipping company and could pick up the wheels at no cost to me. There were some very obvious spelling errors and some syntax errors that made me think of someone from African background.
After several days of insistent emails, I put everything in a folder and forwarded it to the Iowa Attorney General's consumer fraud website. No more contact from him, but a week later another prospective buyer came up with the same scam...send me a check and pick up the wheels. I did the same thing to him and have not heard anything else.
If your state attorney general has a consumer fraud division, contact them...they may be able to build a case against these "e-thieves"

To be honest, I shouldn't exactly call him an "artist."
1) He offered me 5 Solar wheels for 220 GBP.
2) He asked me to send him the money up front via Western Union
3) He couldn't provide photos since his "enginer" (sic) was away on vacation. (This doesn't really make sense.)
4) He refused to allow my london associate (I am in Canada) to check them out and make a cash payment in person.
5) He misspelt "Jaguar." Several times.
Of all the scams I've seen, this is probably the weakest. The best attempt was someone who responded to my JCNA ad for my 1992 V12 VDP with a very convincing certified cheque for $55,000 USD that my local bank teller admitted she probably would have deposited...

Steve-
I think the main objective of Chris's post was to warn of Scammers answering JCNA want ads.
Remember, the "Scumbag" talked about so often on these very forums had a couple of "assistants" the poe-leece did not apprehend.
Would not surprise me if they are at it again, and possibly targeting?
Anyway, Chris, thanks for the head's up.
