I'm considering buying a 2002 X-Type (2.5L, 5-Spd)with 59k miles. The vehicle has been maintained by a Jaguar dealer and is in pristine condition.

What's holding me back is reliabilty. Consumer Union rates it as a vehicle to avoid. Can it really be that bad?

I have a 2003 X-Type 2.5. I haven't experienced any problems so far (knock on wood). Can anyone give me a few pros and cons about that model.

Thank you.

I have a 2002 with the 3.0 and I agree about the power. However, I only have 32,000 miles on an automatic transmission and the Gearbox Fault light came on. The trouble code shows an incorrect synchronization on 4th gear. Problem is, I have owned the car (Garage Kept) for 56 months. Jaguar does not want to assist me in any way for the replacement Tranny. Has anyone else had their transmission go out like this??? P Howell - 2002 X-Type 3.0

Seriously don't go for the 2.5 liter. Better off going for the 3.0, you'll appreciate the extra power. 2002 was the first year and had LOTS of "issues".

I've got a 3.0 2003 and have lots of "visits" to the shop under warranty. However like all JAGS when its running good, NOTHING can compare to the ride.

Thanks,
Steve
