I just bought a 2001 XKR. It came with an aftermarket radar detection system that one of the previous owners had installed.
A black plastic rectangular box detector (1" x 1" x 6") is mounted/glued on the front bumper. (It used to be less conspicuous when it was underneath the front license plate, but PA doesn't require a front plate, so I took it off.)
It has a 1/4" clear red plastic strip across the bottom. The wire runs under the hood to the controls underneath the steering column (I can't see the controller unit) and then the on/off knob is mounted in the dashboard to the left of the steering column. The rotary knob has three positions:
- straight up is off;
- 45 degrees counterclockwise - a clear plastic button inside the speedometer recess turns green .... indicating country driving mode I think.
- 45 degrees clockwise - the light is yellow ... indicating city driving mode I think.
When the ignition is first turned on, there is a series of slow and then rapid beeps/squawks before the system goes quiet .... as the unit calibrates itself I am assuming.
Would anyone have an idea of what manufacturer made this unit, so I could try to track down a manual? I am going to relocate it on a bracket beneath the bumper, so I get a cleaner look.
Much thanks,
Rob - 2001 XKR Convertible
