1976 XJ12L.............Please tell me I did ok
Thank you for the information and for taking the time to be in touch with me.
I will be needing a garage until my new condo is ready...hopefully 6 mos, but who knows...
do you know of any space available in Boca?
By the way, what is your advice with regards to insurance, should I add it to my policy or is there collector car insurance you know of?
Thanks again, and regards,
Harold

Thank you.
The car is a BRG/ Biscuit , to me it looks like the day, no the day after it came out of the showroom and the owner had a chance to clean it up and use up his supply of Zaino.

At 99.98 it must be a very nice one. Congratulations :-). Pictures, please.
Whatever you paid, I'll wager it was waaaaaaay less than the previous owner spent on the car (that oughta make you feel good !)

well a 98 point car is actually 980 out of 1000. so that's 20 points worth of deducts which as doug suggested is quite a few points.
now, indeed it could very well be dirt or poor detailing as well as minor issues like the wrong finish on something... which can all add up.
you could easily search past year concours results on the jcna website and see if you find the seller's name and the score the car got... if he had the car judged ih the past 4 or 5 years, you'll find it...
professional restoration doens't mean much... you can have a professionally restored car to fairly loose standards or a perfect one...
ex... there is a 1973 XJ12 listed on hemmings at 29.5 advertised as a body off restoration. that's great but the XJ is a monocoque... you can't take the body off cause there is no chassis!!!! but wait.. it gets better... the ad claims the car is a JCNA National Concours winner, only problem is that in the past 5 years, no 1973 XJ12 has won national concours award! gee... that's 2 misrepresentation in a 5 line ad!
so to answer you question, I would guess that a recently fully restored 70s XJ12 could fetch up to in the 20s... but I'm no expert on saloons. it just depends on how good the car is. overall, saloons are not the most valuable Jaguars compared to sports cars eventhough they are jsut as costly to restore. so on the bright side, if the car was really restored, it's a good buy as the seller is liekly to have spent more on the restoration than you paid...

PS, I see you jsut joined the SFJC.. welcome!

It could be a 100 point driving class car with a dirty engine.
Ask the seller for the score sheets they will tell you exactly where the 2 points were lost.
Annual mileage is also an indicator of mechanical soundness.
Post picture if you can, it's worth a thousand words.

Sounds like you already bought it, yes ? Are you happy with it ? Then at this point the price doesn't matter. A nice Jag will bring you years of enjoyment.
However, a "98 point" car, by JCNA standards, probably has not been "fully restored", or, if it was, it is an older restoration. It is surely a very nice example, though.
To add some perspective to the scoring my unrestored but continuously refurbished XJ6 usually earns about 99.5 points or so.....and is clearly inferior to the truly restored 99.98+ examples I compete against.

garage, i don't know... check some of the storage places, i think some have garages...
HAgerty is one of the best car collector insurer, along with JC Taylor. google them. you want Agreed value which usually your standard policy will not provide. also collector insurance are used to deal with classic and how to handle claims.
hagerty desn' have mileage restriction, except that you can'tuse the car to commute, etc... they do require that you have a "normal" car for each licensed driver in your household.
