1959 Mark I

Hey guys, I won't say NEVER about engines with internal fuel pumps, but I have not seen any engine with an internal fuel pump with the exception of maybe an old MayTag washing machine engine. A gasoline washing machine? You bet----
This engine had fuel/oil mixture, ran without a load on only the one cylinder and would PUTT about every second or so, then based on how much oil was mixed with the gas would pop out a perfect ring of smoke, As the load was increase, so was the RPM (automatically) until it would run at a steady PUTT_PUTT_PUTT. More then likely around 75 to 100 RPM. There was no fuel pump persay, but sucked what it needed to run. (Yea I know, that was a long- long time ago, but we had one)
Other engines have BOLT on fuel pumps, generaly on the side and as mentioned above, when injection became the norm, these pumps were discontinued for electric pumps, Some would suck the fuel out of the tank on older cars, but more then likely are inside the fuel tank--a real bummer, but car manufactures don't build them for our benifit.

William, it was SOP for cars before fule injection. Fords, Chevys, MoPars all had a mechanical fuel pump run off either the cam or crank excentric. NASCAR didn't allow electric pumps till fuel injection.

Its separate and resides in the boot/trunk mounted up in the left hand side above the wheel well.
