Is there such an animal, and if so what the heck does it look like?
There is one of these listed at an auction near my home this week end.
Can anyone tell me if it is perhaps a typo on the year or model?

Sorry Dennis, no such thing.
In 1988 a joint venture company was formed betwwen Jaguar Ltd and TWR group to produce a limited edition and more sporting version of the basic XJ40. They named it the Jaguar Sport XJR 3.6. She was lauched at the NEC Motor show following the 1988 Le Mans victory.
