1988 XJS ENGINE
It is too much of a risk, you would have to HOPE the engine has no major problems (it is going to have problems). But without a stripdown it would have to be run to know for sure. I would not do it, I would rather buy a new/rebuilt unit.

I FOUND A 1988 ENGINE LOCAL WITH 76,00 MILES.THE LAST TIME IT WAS RUN WAS 2001.IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO BUY A ENGINE TAHT HASN'T BEEN RUN IN SO LONG.WOULD A OIL ANALYSIS ON SUCH OLD OIL BE A OPTION?

Lawrence a good answer might be a bit easier if we knew where you are located--there are several good options.

This is a very big job, what is the reason for the rebuild, it might prove prudent to just buy a complete engine?
I would find one as new as possible, these older ones tend to leak at the cam boxes after sitting too long..
