My 66 s1, 2+2 was stored for 18 years with the head off and consequently it has rusty cylinders and non moving pistons. Anyone have experience with cylinder sleeves vs oversize pistions?

i have not done jaguar engine but have done mga and a triumph tr3a ..agree depends upon rust but i would tend to go with new sleeves unless rust depth slight...i did the triumph in a day and drove to work the next day..i realize the jaguar a little more involved but you would be sure to have things right..new rings etc...great oil pressure

Since your engine is sleeved anyhow, if the worst came to the worst you'd only be putting the engine back to its original state anyhow.

As a matter of interest, what's the car number? My 66 iwas an April 2nd build #1E75339. Not that there'll be much left by the time it has been built up as a D-type replica :-)

Jim as Dick says "a lot depends". Best advise (unless you have the proper measuring tools-is to take the block and data from the Jaguar workshop manual to a good machine shop--they will tell you exactly where your bock stands and your options. Best of luck

A lot depends on which size the pistons are and how deep the rust goes. If standard pistons and the rust is not to deep, then boring oversize should take care of it. Do realize that the deepest rust will be where the upper rings are sitting. Worst case is sleeving and worth it if you want to maintain the original engine.
