Triple carbs or twin strombergs? If its the twins, did you plug the vacuum line under the manifold , front of the carbs underneath? Then check you brake booster vacuum tank lines and clamps, sounds like a vacuum leak.
New info has come out about Petronix, did you convert? If so, the plate MUST be clean as its the ground to the distributor. Petronix work great for over 100 of my different cars from the 20's to the 70's. EXCEPT the damn etypes, for some reason, they were never right. IMHO.
They also come now with a feeler guage to air cap the space between the magnet and the module.. Go back and check all vaccum
