Remove the key switch unit from the column, just one flat screw underneath, slide the unit to the right and out of the way, hoping you have no A/C. Does any of the connections look like they melted or burned the plastic boots. Does the key not twist in the switch or stick. If so the CRAPPY/CHEAP plastic unit is toast. VERY COMMON.
Unless you touched 2 wires, change the unit, its really a bad design.
Go to store and buy a STANDARD key and switch they are around 10 dollars.
Use that as a test unit, if all is good, its the switch.
