I have a brake light indicator flashing on the dash of my 87. It is not consistent but comes on from time to time. I notice that there is wiring running to the top of the cap on the master cylinder which is all twisted up as the wire turns when the cap is screwed on. Is there a sensor in the cap. I had the car mechanically inspected two years ago by a Jaguar mechanic. He informed me that the brakes work great mechanically but he would need more time to look into the electronics. Is this a common problem with this model?

Bill as William said---low brake fluid--top her up with the correct spec fluid. Good luck.

Yeah, if the level is OK it's propbably the wiring at the cap or the switch/float inside the cap. If the cap isn't oriented correctly the hood sorta beats it up whenever you close it.

Bill check the fluid level, it is likely just on the low level, or the float is bad.
Great info, thanks. The wires have certainly been abused somewhere along the way as they are twisted and crossed over. I will see what happens if I re-orient the cap. Pretty sure the fluid is good but I have not looked at the car for some time.
