I'm new to XJ6 ownership after rattly Triumphs and a Lotus Elan which smelled of petrol, I'm finally in the right car !

It's a 1970 series 1 manual 2.8 with standard carburettors, and the accelerator (throttle) pedal is VERY VERY stiff- to the point that smooth starts are difficult. from half power to full it's fine, but the point where it starts biting is very difficult to modulate, it is more like an on/off switch.

Any good tips as to what could be the cause is appreciated- whether this is a normal problem, and if it's likely to be the cable or linkage ?

Hi Thor,
welcome to Jaguar World,.............. it seems a lot of older cars have sticky throttle cables. What I have done in the past is use a spray penetrating spray, perhaps have someone else operate the throttle and spray the fluid wherever there is a pivot point or the inner cable enters the outer cable. All pivot points must move easy ............. Is your car one that was brought in from Germany or something , I have not heard of many manual trans cars unless they have either been converted or brought in from another market area. There are quite a few XJS that were brought in with 6 cylinder engines and manual trans........ After many years of competing with my auto box I am now in the final stages of installing a 4 spd manual for slalom and track use.....your car would do well in JCNA Slalom competitions for sure..
Best Wishes, Art
