I'm looking for an XJ-6, as i have discussed in a previous post. Reading the threads on the chain tensioners in the current production models makes me wonder about the advisability of an aftermarket warranty.
The price of an engine or trans rebuild is much higher than other vehicles. In my field, (computer consultant) i normally advise against these warranties, it seems their primary purpose is to collect premiums, then, when a failure occurs, there is always an excuse why your particular failure is not covered.
I see, looking on ebay, (no, i would never buy a Jaguar there!) getting a quote for a warranty is only a click away. So i'm curious what experience members have had, getting repairs done under warranty.
So, are the aftermarket warranties a scam, or a legitimate way of controlling major repair cost?

aftermarket warranty
Like any other insurance policy (which is what this sort of thing amounts to, really) there are dozens---hundreds--- being offered. Some are so full of loopholes, exceptions, and disclaimers its almost laughable. Others have good coverages and are underwritten by reputable outfits.
I'd never buy one if I couldn't hold the contract in my hands and read it myself.

aftermarket warranty
And, by the way, what would you expect to pay for a warranty on a '97 XJ-6, for instance? '59 MGA (sold)
If you are still looking I can give you info on the one I have (email me). I would also check with your local Jaguar leadership. They also sell aftermarket warranties. You would get some good insight into these companies from the folks who deal with them everyday.
