brake light issue
Tom,
What year is your XJS? I have the same problem at times and I've been told the sending unit on the Brake fluid reservoir is faulty. One person was able to get it to work properly by removing and cleaning the reservoir, but it was a long process. The other alternative is to purchase a new reservoir if it's for a 94 or later XJS. According to my parts person, the sending unit was an un-removable part of the reservoir.

brake light issue
Hello Tom,
I sometimes have the same problem. The brake light comes on intermittently even thou the brake fluid and brakes are fine. I think it might have something to do with a loose connection. Keep an eye on the light when you go over bumps or rough patches on the road. Check your connections as well.
Cheers,

Which brake light is it? If it is the ABS light, it could be do to a bad accumulator.
