Tom,
Do your homework! Verizon has never had GSM. It is purely CDMA technology. However some areas have roaming agreements with other GSM services in Europe. This requires a Tri-mode cellphone. But not in the U.S. Verizon's roaming agreements in the U.S. are with Sprint. They are the ONLY two CDMA nationwide providers in the U.S. today.

FYI, Verizon does not provide GSM service. Verizon is CDMA and is the main competitor with Sprint. GSM services are provided by Cingular, AT&T (now owned by Cingular), and T-Mobile

Try EBay. They have older phones and such. Pretty cheap!
Be careful! Make sure you get a GSM phone rather than CDMA. Motorola makes several types of phones and if you by the wrong one you will not be able to get on the correct network!
Dave!
Thanks for correcting me. I stand corrected and apologize to this site if I gave incorrect information. I understood the question to be Motorola Phone. To the best of my knowledge Motorola doesn't do much CDMA. At least in the time frame we are discussing for the phone in question.
I have no desire to get into a contest over it, i was simply trying to alert the guy to be cautious when he makes the replacement.
Sorry I got involved here! Sounds like my opinion is of little value!
