I have a 1997 XJ6 and recently it has been making a "clicking" sound when the car is in reverse or drive. The clicking sound is coming from the gear shift area, and it also clicks in the steering column. It does not do it all the time, and it has not caused any performance issues or electrical issues yet, it just makes that clicking sound. Has anyone experienced this problem with their vehicle?
Thanks in advance for your help. Dave

Clicking sound from gear shift and steering column areas
hey, i have a 96 xj6 and i have the same sound. the jag dealer here says it is a brake sensor, and that the symptom is called gear shift interlock. it doesnt really affect the car. a different opinion i got is that it is normal for this car.
Sorry for the delay in sending along my thanks....I recently got a new computer and hadn't had the chance to get everything set up to get back to this forum. Anyway, I really appreciate your input on this...good to know I am not alone! Jag's are great for this sort of crazy stuff!
