Ed, let me see if I can't help. I assume you are talking about the cover that fits over the top when it has been folded back behind the seats.
At the rear of the cover are two small brackets (think "J" shaped when looking in profile) that clasp into two brackets that are screwed down under the rear finisher chrome trim strip. There should be two straps at the front of the cover, and each should have a female connector that has a hole in it (with little wires inside the hole). At corresponding points to these straps, to the right and left of the interior light, should be a peg "male" connector that these straps push onto. The male connector itself is screwed/threaded into the sheetmetal. Are any of these snaps of connectors on the cover or on the car?
It has been awhile since I've had my cover on, but I think there are also two more female connectors on straps at the far right and left extremes of the cover, and these push into a male peg that is mounted on the chrome finisher on each side.
Let me know if you need additional details, and I'll try to send you some pics. Please contact me at mcloadgmail.com, not at ev1.
