I'm sure this is a common annoyance. Disc brake dust on the wheels after several miles after cleaning the wheels. Have any of our group tried ceramic discs? I put them on a friends Covvette and had good results. Less dust and it was gray-ish and much less visible. Not available at the Jaguar stealership at any price.

Jonathan @Pacific Jag Enthusiasts
I've been advised by both the local Jag dealership as well as several foreign car mechanics that the rotors on Jags cannot be turned but have to be replaced. This is mainly due to the composition of the rotors and how they are manufactured. Remember: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!
Good luck

I'm not recommending, nor am I endorsing anything here, but I just read where Advanced Auto Parts company has developed a new "Ceramic" brake shoe called "Wearever Platinum Premiun Ceramic Brake Shoes" sold at their local Parts houses around the country.

I wish I could find the article now, but cannot find it, but the shoes are highly recommended to greatly reduce if not eliminate brake dust, are super quite and provide excellent braking power.

I looked them up on line and although it doesn't say, they are listed at $55. I would assume that means per wheel--(Set). Maybe someone here on the fourm has put a set of these on their car and could relay the good or bad of the shoes.

I for one would be a possible buyer if the new shoes just eliminate the dust. The ones on the front of my XJ8L must come with a box of dust built in.

Just for information.

At about 70,000 Km on my 2006 Jaguar S Type R the rear (Jaguar parts) brake pads need to be replaced (the second time, only 30,000 Km on current set), and I agree the brake dust is horrific. So I have ordered ceramic pads ($120) from a Toronto supplier and will have the current rotors turned (as opposed to replacement) - there is enough rotor thickness to do this. With the help of a knowledgeble friend I intend to do the brake replacement myself, for a total cost of about $160. I figure that this is worth a try. The ceramic pads can't be worse performing (in terms of lifespan) than the Jaguar parts, and I am hopeful that the brake dust problem will be minimised. If this works well I will then probably do the front brakes with the same sort of brake pads.
