I am currently rebuilding my Series 1 4.2 engine and have a question about the bolts on the rear & front bearing caps. I used locking tabs for all other bolts on the caps but the lock tabs do not fit front & rear. I used a regular washer, should I add a lock washer or leave it with plain washers? Torqued to 73lbs.
Also looking at purchasing a Bell Stainless Steel exhaust. Is that a good system for the car?
Thanks

Thank you for that info. I did use the flat correct washers. My book said 73 lbs but I will check. Barratt has the exhaust on sale this month just checking to see if it was ok. I'm in Massachusetts so I guess it would be better to use ss. Just put one on our MG last year!
Thanks Again,
Dick

As long as you use the machined flat washers it needs nothing else. Never use a spring lock washer. Check the torque figures in the book, i thought they went to 83! As far as stainless goes, it depends on where you live, stainless holds up better in damp climates but it is harder to work on, welding clamping etc. In warm climates the original mild steel is fine. Jaguar affectionado and etc.
