does anyone know if the front suspension / steering components were updated to work better on the later cars, or is it just the later cars had the 6 s mainly as opposed to the V 12s......

Art, with your involvement it cars you must know that very little in the automotive world is updated to make it work better. Since the initiation of fuel economy rules in the late 70's the main focus of manufacturers has been constant change in order to save weight, this is acheived by making lighter cars and components. Everything is getting flimsier, the result of which is cars that are lifed at 10 years at most. Look at the front lower ball joints on an early "s" and compare them to your 1990. The age of throwaway cars is upon us.
