original pump is an SU. Very few aftermarket pumps work without a regulator. Some carbs are more sensitive to this than others. Check the pressure. If should not exceed 3 psi. If it does, that is most likely the problem and a simple inline regulator will fix it. btw: it did not flood for me or I would have mentioned it.
