1991 XJ-6 - Had car since new. A few months ago, car stalled when running for about an hour. Would run again when cooled down, but when it gets hot, just sputters and hardly moves. Mechanic checked fuel pressure - low - replaced fuel pump. Seemed to work okay. ALso all plugs, wires, rotor, dist. cap replaced with Jaguar parts. Last week when running on very hot day, car stalled. Similar problem - cools down and will run again, but quickly stalls out. Cool off and starts. Had it towed home, and of course after it cooled down, was able to start easily and drive into garage. Any ideas???? Car is not reliable and since my wife drive it, she has not driven it since last week. Any thoughts on this are much appreciated. Bill

Help! XJ-6 quits
Hey did you ever get an answer to this problem? I have an 88 XJ40 and it just started doing the same thing.

Help! XJ-6 quits
Not sure about this year XJ40, but had same problem with '85 XJ6. Test the ignition amplifier. Mine had a GM component in it that can be bought cheap from NAPA.

I think I got this one figured out. The MAF sensor on my 88 XJ6 reads a high value as it gets real hot. SO after sitting in traffic for some time, on hot days, under hood temperature is really hot. Anyway, The MAF sensor sends a signal to ECM that doesn't jive with the TPS voltage, as you are sitting at idel, yet the MAF sensor is telling the computer that u have alot of air going into the engine, it compensates by dumping more fuel, wich causes the engine to run very rich, and start to flood out, causing it to stall out. Make sure you get a good reading on the MAF when it is acting up, before you just throw the part on, because it is very expensive, and you dont want to throw parts at the car, that won't fix it.
