New to the club and site . . . was wondering if any XJ-6 VDP owners have cleaned the high pile lambswool rugs. I see that the foam insert can be removed (like a seat cushion) but didnt know if the lambswool can be cleaned wet (eg soaked in room temp or warm water, with woolite or similar), dry cleaned, or vacuumed only. Any experience or insights would be appreciated.

Hi. Well maybe if we are worried about that we should be a little more careful with the advice we are giving.
The so called lambÔÇÖs wool carpet that seems to be prevalent in the States cannot be washed as it becomes matted and looks really terrible afterwards. However the lambÔÇÖs wool carpet that was supplied by Jaguar in the Sovereign and VDP was completely different and "can" be washed in cold water. I have washed a set of mine twice now and it has not changed them in any way other than make then look cleaner.
I did mention that there were difference lambÔÇÖs wool carpets available in my first posting under this subject but I guess it was easily missed.

Bob and George,
The both of you need a time out!!! Or at the least a new thread called Lets all get along quickly re- read your responses and didnt see an answer to  have any XJ-6 VDP owners have cleaned the high pile lambs wool rugs? Just a lot of rules bickering and debate.
Doug,
Pay no attention to the men behind the curtain. Whatever you do DONÔÇÖT USE WATER on any Wool Carpet, Not in a house, car or anywhere in between. Only ÔÇ£Dry options should be used. Home Depot sells a dry product called Capture.. Even better is a HOST product. Get ahold of me ÔÇ£off forumÔÇØ and I will send you a baggie of the HOST product,,,

George to jog your memory. We did talk on the phone about it and nothing changed. You and I agreed that just lifting the corner would be acceptable in order for the judge to check the cleanliness of the under carpet. However that is not what happened. I was still required to pull them out of my Car at the next concours I attended. I even pleaded my case with the judges that they were standard equipment in my car not an optional item and i told them about our conversation, no difference.
When we spoke I informed you they were one of kind carpets that could not be replaced and that putting them in and taking them out of my car would totally destroy them. I ended up taking them out of my car permantly and keeping them in plastic bags stored in the boot of the car.
I don't have the car anymore. Sept 18th 2011 0n my way home from a car show, a nice lady came racing out of a donut shop with a coffee in one hand and a cell phone in the other and tee-boned my gorgeous Black Cherry. Result the insurance company wrote me car off.
Good thing was the original carpets out of the car were not damaged.

Bob what do you understand? The rule was put in for those who threw in a new set of mats over worn out carpet--clear enough?

Tough question to answer. There were actually three types of lamb wool over carpets available. One of these you would not have as it was unique and standard equipment to the 1992 Series III Canadian limited edition V-12. Of the remaining two which were both optional equipment on the XJ6 VDP, one can be washed while the other one cannot be. So really depends on which ones you have. It is possible that one was genuine Jaguar supplied and the other aftermarket but I am not totally sure this is right.
Anyway why would you want to have these in your car? You have to pull them out of the car to be judged and therefore they become just an unnecessary item that could garner an additional deduction and secondly they are a pain to get back in again after the judging has finished. Eventually with all the tugging and stretching putting them in and taking out again, they will tear at the seams.
Never did understand or agree with that concours rule.
For effective washing and disinfection use suitable non-ionic liquid detergent which does not contain enzymes, phosphates, peroxide, alkali or bleach.
