Regarding the JCRC proposal for Concours class changes, there are several items I take issue with, however I will post them one at a time to avoid rambling off into related topics. This post will address the proposed Special Interest Division only.

I see no need to create a new division. Factory built race cars, C-types, D-types, light weight E-types, etc. are being disenfranchised with the creation of this new division. Most of the cars included in the proposed new division already have a place in the existing Championship division.

Factory built race cars should be in Championship as they can be judged for originality. Right now the only difference between Championship Division and Driven Division is judging the boot and bonnet and factory built race cars should show their boot and bonnet as there is no reason not too.

The proposed new division would require showing the boot and bonnet but they would not be judged on originaltiy. In order to score the new division on the 10 point system a new, third, score sheet would be required. Why are we re-inventing the wheel; just leave these cars where they are.

Modified cars and special interest Jaguar powered vehicles may be better suited to the Driven Division. Non factory produced race cars could be inncluded in a Driven Modified class (i.e. the Ghost would not be eligible for Championship Division).

Scott,
Thanks for taking the time to read the proposal and offer your opinion.

There were several reasons that JCRC proposed the changes to the Champion and Driven Divisions and created the new Special Interest Division. Most of those reasons were implied in the Overview and General Spirit statements that accompanied the proposal.

Briefly:
1. Champion Division and Driven Division will be reserved for cars that are judged for cleanliness, condition AND authenticity.

2. The existing Champion Division Classes 15 and 16 are NOT currently judged for authenticity.

3. The existing Class 15 includes all factory and ex-works prepared Jaguar race cars, competition cars prepared by persons operating independent of the factory or by Jaguar Cars sponsored teams, etc., mixed with privately modified Jaguar race cars meeting safety requirements, etc., etc.

4. There may be but a handful of people in the USA and Canada who know what is authentic or non-authentic about "C", "D" and "SS" type Jaguars. However, few may be JCNA Judges and few of them may ever be present at a concours when one of those cars is entered. There are NO authenticity standards for the non-factory cars eligible to enter Class 15.

5. Judging the authenticity of competition cars is impractical if not impossible in the majority of normal JCNA concours circumstances.

6. Special Interest Division will be for unique cars whose Interior, Exterior, Engine Compartment and Boot are judged for condition and cleanliness but NOT authenticity. New score sheets may be developed but those for Champion Division will work OK.

7. The Factory Competition cars are being honored (not disenfranchised) by having a class of their own, not mixed with home-built race cars.

8. Once more, Champion Division and Driven Division will be reserved for cars that are judged for cleanliness, condition AND authenticity.
