I just acquired a 1989 XJS V12 - running and in good shape. However, no service records and I want to do a pragmatic, sequential check up. My plan is:
1. ignition system (Lucas)- plugs, distributor, wires, compression check (have the compressor and prim. coil out of the way now)
2. relocate the injector harness off the block (looks OK ...)
3. (Anything else while I have the V accessible?)
4. if compression check OK - reassemble- get running - if not re-think...based on compression check
5. Timing
6. add dye to oil - ID leaks (it is a Jag..., and it does run....) - suspect oil pan leak
7. Change oil
8. cooling system flush - check hoses, thermostats
9. Check (listen) to injectors - ID ones that are suspect... - tackle EFI if needed
Does this make sense - I know this is a fairly simple outline of my approach (is it a reasonable start)- any advice
I am new to the XJS - love the car - been doing a lot of research and am good under the hood.
Thanks-
