It was a shock to hear of Karen Miller,s passing. Karen was possibly the most knowledgeable woman I've known regarding Jaguar Cars. I have known and admired her since I first met her in the early 90's. She always had an answer or would find one for me on the several occacions I contacted her for advice or in search of information. I know that everyone who knew her will miss her. My condolences to Edward and the family.

Re.: Karen Miller
How about the Whyte - Miller Trophy. Altered name, new procedure, gender neutral. The purpose of such a trophy is to not only honor the people who contribute, but to remember the spirit of those who have played key roles in making the JCNA what it is today.
If a person was important to name a trophy after, his/her legacy should continue as long as there is a JCNA to continue it.
If a significant difference can be established between the two awards, then I say award both. Or how about both trophies covering the same ground, the Whyte trophy for the man and the Miller for the woman? Otherwise, I like the idea of the posthumous award and retirement to Karen Miller, replaced with the Whyte - Miller Trophy.

Re.: Karen Miller
I think we should work with our clubs to nominate Karen for posthumus award of the Andrew Whyte. Better late than never.
Concurrent with that, I think it's time to retire the Andrew Whyte, which by charter is awarded to "a very special Jaguar man". It's sexist, and my wife isn't even prompting me to say that. Let's just rename it the Karen Miller trophy, open it to Jaguar men and women, and work on liberalizing it's administration.

Re.: Karen Miller
George,
I agree. My suggestion on that would be that the committee be made up of two members of the BOD and three members at-large, all with equal voting rights. The chair should be a member at-large, not a BOD member.

Re.: Karen Miller
I agree but the committee can not run like the Andrew Whyte comittee of one.

Re.: Karen Miller
Well said by all. Karen's passing is a great loss to the entire Jaguar community, not only organizationally, but to each of us on a very personal level. She was a model of what we should all hope to be.
With that in mind, I propose that the BOD consider creating a new award, the Karen Miller Memorial Trophy, to be awarded to the JCNA member who in the past year has (1) shown distinction in preserving the history of the Jaguar marque, (2) campaigned a car or cars in concours, rally or slalom in at least three JCNA affiliated club events, and (3) has distinguished him/herself through a display of outstanding leadership, sportsmanship and good fellowship. I propose that the trophy be a "perpetual" trophy, passed from winner to winner from year to year, and should be awarded at the AGM (the meeting itself, not the banquet), handed by the prior winner to the new winner.
I know it's soon after her passing to be talking of such things, but with her no longer here to help us, it's up to us to continue to instill the kind of values she exemplified. Be at peace, Karen, and know your memory will not soon fade from the Jaguar community that loved you and the many friends you made here.

Re.: Karen Miller
Absolutely devastating news. JCNA and the Jaguar hobby has lost not one of the, but THE most dedicated, talented and enthusiastic supporter we have ever seen and are ever likely to see again. No trophy or award would ever be good enough for this pioneer.
Thank you Karen, for everything. My only regret is that we did not get to work more together.
My condolences to her husband, her family and many friends, to her great friend Mike Cook, and to the Empire Division.

Re.: Karen Miller
Dave is right. We (JCNA) have perhaps lost our most important member. I would suggest that the BOD arrange a generous contribution to the Hospice as mentioned in recognition of her tireless efforts toward our club. I have lost a dear friend and we have all lost a true Jaguar treasure. Lets keep Ed in our thoughts and help Mike Cook. With Charlie's passing and now Karen our connection to Jaguar is getting thin.

I appreciate your sentiments and Mark S in a later post- but Karen and Andrew were close friends- she ran a memorial "for Andrew" on her race car for a season. I like the Whyte-Miller award. Has anyone heard from our BOD?
