Just finished a rebuild of a 4.2 engine I bought from a salvage yard. The head required very little, planed flat, new exhuast valves and shimmed just right. Now installed when warmed up I get a tap around exhast valves 1 & 2. Is this lifting of the tappet guides? No sign of any wear with the valve cover removed. I've seen the aftermarket clips to prevent this. Is this something I can do insitu? I really do not care to pull the head. Could the tap be something else?
