Greetings!
I've just bought my first Jaguar and am looking forward to learning all I can about this fine marque.
She's a 1986 XJ-6 (Series III, of course) with 72,500 miles on her.
The car had been sitting for about two-and-a-half years, but was well tended by an English car-lover and mechanic, who started and ran her regularly.
While the rust is pretty bad, I am amazed by how smoothly she's running; I'm very happy with the $930.00 purchase price. I'm driving her quite regularly.
I suppose the biggest issue I face right now involves window operation: The windows that do work are very slow, and don't open all the way. One window opened, but now won't close.
Having collected older Lincolns, I'm familiar with their issues. Their windows tend to stick because their lubricant turned to paste over many years. is this the case with Jaguars? If not, can anyone suggest a solution to my window issues?
I'm sure I'll have more questions as my affair with my first Jag unfolds.
Until then, thanks for any help you might offer.
Sincerely,
Chris Ingram

NOPE, probably not the window motors. The most common issue with the windows is the switches needing cleaning. Pry the sides of the switches open, the rockers will pop out, and clean the contacts inside. Make sure to do the same for your central window locking switch also. Careful not to lose the small parts. Next clean and spray lubricant on all the channels.

Sorry, I don't own an XJ-6, but my guess would be worn-out window motors. It could be a lubrication issue as you stated. I would at least get and install one new motor just to see if that made the difference. Perhaps these motors can be rebuilt?
Good luck, and congrats on your Jaguar!

Thanks, I'll try cleaning them this weekend..
And I am driving her almost daily. Amazing how she runs like a top!
