So battery went dead 96 XJ12 63,000 miles, I jumped the car off the firewall stud above the starter and it starts. Tried using the black keys to manually unlock the boot, key operates properly, latch mechanisms moving as they should however it will not unlatch. Tried using the key fob which will unlock the doors as it should but on the 3rd press it does not unlock the boot. Tried the switch on the dash to no avail. I would check the latch fuse but... Jaguar decided a good location for this fuse would be in the trunk (Grrrrr). I have searched the archives here, Motorcars and Jag lovers and have tried everything posted, twice, even tried the drill a hole behind the license plate trick (Grrrrr) to access the latch mechanism manually. But the latch mechanisms seem to be working fine. The car thinks the boot is open as the boot warning light is on in the dash, this is why the key fob and dash switch are not working (I assume... yeah I know) maybe why the key is not working. The key in this one has always been a stiff operation, however it works smoothly now after being lubed repeatedly. I'm stumped how do I get the car to send a signal to the boot latch when it thinks the boot is already open. How do I reset, I would just unhook the battery but... any idea's would be appreciated as I enter my 3rd day of trying to get into the trunk I'm starting to lose my sense of humor.

You may have to remove the rear seat to see if you can get access from there into the trunk compartment You will have to crawl through or get a long extension with a ratchet with the correct size socket and remove bolts to the latch. Have had to do this on US cars but never on a Jag. Hopefully this will work.
