Looking at a 2001 4.0 XK8, 49K and noticed at idle there is slight tappet noise. Is this normal? Engine has plenty power and runs smooth. My other Jags engine is a 4.2 and is quite as a mouse.
Steven Petry, if you see this, when you have time, would you contact me off forum. I would like to talk to you about this car. 850-625-9435, or vineyardman68comcast.net

Re.: Tappet Noise's
I agree with William. If the work on updating the timing chain tensioners has not been completed, my best guess is... that is the problem. Before my 1997 XK8 had this work done it sounded like a tappet type noise. The upper tensioner is the most crucial of the two as it can "take out" the motor.

Re.: Tappet Noise's
Make sure it isn't a chain/tensioner noise, ie, has it been modified with the updated tensioners!
Is the problem on bank1 , or bank2?
