That's the best way I can describe it. When you make a RH turn, even a gradual sweeping one, there is a thump-thump-thump with each wheel revolution associated with the rear right wheel or rear right axle.

The local British car expert heard me tell my symptoms and immediately jumped to, "It's the differential." I'm not buying this without a definitive diagnosis. It does NOT sound like any diff problem I've had with any other of the cars I've owned in my 53 years...I've had them growl, whine, and roar but never thump-thump-thump when turning in one direction.

I'm thinking, axle bearing...universal joint(s) on the right rear axle...?

Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Thanks,

Lou

A limited slip diff...such as what an XJS has... can thump, especially around corners.

Sometimes fresh fluid and new friction modifier (GM part # 1052358) will solve the problem

Make sure the axle shaft isn't touching the tail pipe

Make sure the drive shaft isn;t hitting the underbody of the car

Cheers
