Anyone know what water temp an otter switch is suppose to click on the fan motor on a Series 1 car?

Be careful with aftermarket switches, one i seen was too tall and it touched the Bonnet when closed, it eventually made the fan come, on thats why the car came to me? I have never had a problem with the single fan blade, with the correct switch and a good motor it works well here in the San Fernando Valley, California.

FWIW, http://Coolcatcorp.com offers a modern replacement for the otter switch that works well and lasts forever. Cheap, too. OTOH, it does not look like the original exactly so in Championship concours it will get a demerit if noticed.

Also, they offer by far the best replacement cooling fan. It mounts in the original fittings, takes little current, and actually cools the engine in hot weather! I never had the fan switch OFF while idling with the original, but this is normal with this fan. Many black blades, but if you paint only one pair silver it looks very much like the original propellorhead fan.

Yes there were and not just for Jaguar--one common substitution is an MG switch which is too high. Do you have a one blade push on or a two prong lead? The one prong push on is the correct one.

Thanks George, I have the manual; just didn't think to look. the switch in question comes on well above 200 degrees. Why, I don't know but the issue the with this switch is obvious . The only markings on the switch are date code 1970 and a B85. I don't know if this is to designate 85deg C or not. I was just wondering if Otter produced other switches with different operating temps.

Blake straight out of the Jagaur service maual (do you have one--you should) the switch closes and the fans come on at aprox. 80 deg C.
