I recently replaced the bushings in the steering column of my Series I E-Type coupe. The old upper one was almost totally worn out which created a lot of "wobble" in the steering wheel.

In a preliminary test of the repaired column, I noted quite a lot of drag from the bearings. I had used motor oil to lubricate the older bearings and felt that it might have contributed to the failure of the upper one.

This time I applied a coating of Teflon lubricant, Radio Shack 64-2326. Does anyone know of a more appropriate lubricant for this application?

I agree that any lubricant will work with nylon bushings. You may find that WD40 and/or teflon spray may eventually dry out after awhile and you'll have to re-apply. I wouldn't use motor oil simply because of the odor. After the bushings work themselves in, you won't need any lube.
