My U.S. left hand drive SII has all red rear lens covers. But in the box of parts I acquired with the car I happen to have a left rear lens that is amber on top and red on the bottom. I always figured the right lens was cracked back in the day and a new "set" was purchased rather than just a replacement. (And a small dent in the chrome housing supports my theory!)
But I just learned in my new "Factory-Original Jaguar E-Type Book" that the amber top was NOT for the US...but why would I have it?? I took the lens off and it turns out I also have the bulb housing that is appropriate for an amber-on-top lens. This housing is split horizontally rather than vertically. Picture attached which should explain...
So my question is about originality or maybe learning that there was a transition period? What do you know about this? Curious! Thanks! I'm trying to keep this car as original as I can.
