Series 3 warning buzzer question

I am working on a U.S Spec. 1974 S3 E-Type and the warning
buzzer occasionally just buzzes with the car unattended and
the key out of the ignition and no lights on. I have
unplugged the seat sensor connections, unplugged the seat
belt connection by the tunnel. It still periodically buzzes
for no apparent reason. The buzzer is not what appears in
the Workshop Manual but instead is a fairly large buzzer
behind the fold down instrument panel with a multi pin plug
carrying about 10-15 wires. It has a ''safety interlock'' of
some sort which when unplugged, doesn't allow the starter to
work. I can find nothing in the wiring diagram concerning
this arrangement nor can I find the buzzer anywhere except
on a UK site where is it shown for a XJ12 or Daimler Double
6, no wiring diagram though. If anyone with any information
on this setup has any ideas for either how to end the
buzzing or defeat the buzzer, please let me know.

Thanks George, the car is a 4 speed. I found a diagram of the pin config of the buzzer. I think I have sorted out how to take care of this. If not, I'll be back. :-)

Richard you do not say if the car is an automatic or not. If it is an automatic my best guess is that the recall campaign A.209 was never applied. It covers cars 1S20169BW thru1S20869BW and 7S72661BW thru 7S73668BW. It is a long bulletin but if your car is in that batch please contact me and I will send you a copy. The problem you state seems on point with complaints from that period.

Thanks Joey, unfortunately, I have already done that... along with disconnecting the seats and belt receptacles. It still occasionally buzzes for no apparent reason, even with the car sitting with no key in it and no one anywhere near it. I think it's haunted.

Series 3 warning buzzer question

I might be wrong but there is a purple wire to the ignition key cover. When the switch gets old it doesn't retract all the way and the connetion is made as if the key is in the ignition, look behind the ignition key mechanism, PULL THE PURPLE WIRE if its there and tape the end, it will never buzz again, unless you want it then get a WHOLE NEW switch cover .
