my 86' xj6 vdp stereo/cassette is about down to am only. the cassette pooped out a couple years ago and the fm is fading fast. I like talk radio OK but not all the time!

My question is: I want to keep a stock jag stereo unit in the dash for the sake of a faithful resto look. I was wondering what other years stock radios (and maybe a am/fm/cd???) would fit in the stock hole without any mods. This will help my search be easy as possible. I have had little luck finding the exact same unit I have now and some say it aint so great anyway.

I know this aint the parts wanted section....but anybody who has what I might need can email me direct with pictures, description, price etc.

Thanks
Doug

for an original try junkyards first, but beware, those stereos are usually junk too, otherwise buy a decent Kenwood of your choice and adapt it well, crutchfield.com has many stereos. the worse part will be to cut and file the opening to fit the new-style DIN chassis, once that is done, the wiring is a matter of adapting/soldering the old stereo plugs to the new stereo. I did that to my '84 and never looked back. There's a line between originality and convenience. I kept my 1984 stereo to get it repaired someday, but the Kenwood sounds awesome even with the original speakers which I still have. But no, I would not go back to my 1984 factory stereo. It's my party and I'll cry if I want to.

I had the unit in my '85 repaired by a loacl shop when I lived in the tules of Southern Oregon. Have you considered repair? It may cost about the same as a good used unit. You may want to try Jaguar Heaven in Stockton, CA for a used unit, Dan is very good there and they have skads of XJ6's.
