I have a 70 XKE Series ll with double SUs; manual trans. They idle fine at first at 750-800. After running about 15 minutes and the temp gets to mid range the idle creeps up to 1500, then 2000. Any thoughts on fix/adjustment. Just got the car and previous owner said it just started behaving this way.

George you are correct, they are Zenith Strombergs. As a matter of fact, I just bought the car from Ray Pignitor of SC who gave me pictures of the
engine and trans being rebuilt around 4-29-03 by George Camp with his "E" (Red) in the background. Cound this 1R12773 be your car?

Jim are you sure they are SU (Skinner Union) or perhaps are they Zenith Stromburg. It will matter in the answers. Also if they are infact SU a picture of the manifold will possibly be required to determine what it is from. George Camp
Well Stew you caught me. I agree with Sherman that the thermal comp. sounds like it is not returning. And no it is not my car but I did do a engine rebuild some time ago anf there was an engine fire brought on by an improper AC compressor rebuild by a major supplier. The rear plate blew off at speed (wrong lockring installed and not seated) which dumped the sumps mineral oil directly onto the exhaust. The owner got the car stopped and put out the fire quickly and no major damage was done. George Camp
