My Jag is somewhat new to me and I have a couple of questions.
The first is regarding the trunk lid. When it is unlocked is out supposed to pop open or stay closed but unlocked?
Second is regarding the phone. Is it programmable to my cell or just something to look at?

Thanks Steven, yes Brian was of great assistance. Sorry to hear about the phone. But thanks for your information!

Trunk lid and phone.
I see Brian Vogel got you going on the door opener.....
On the phone, you are out of luck. Even if the car had the integrated phone installed back in the day, it would have been an analog unit that no company will activate any more. There was a digital flip phone upgrade, but even it cannot be brought up to the bluetooth era. Bluetooth can only be added to these models or later:
2004 XJ
2003 S-type
2003 X-Type
2003 XK8
Cheers,

Regarding the phone, can a modern digital phone be connected to the phone system in a 1999 XJR? If so, what is the procedure?
Another question is regarding the garage door openers. Anybody know how to program them? I recently purchased my XJR and it did not come with an owners manual (I've ordered one but it has yet to arrive). Sorry if I'm violating the thread rules by asking the garage door programming question here.

Steve------------
First, Mr Petry is the expert, I'm just an observer.
However, reading your question again, I think your asking if the trunk pops open (raises) as with some cars like my Caddy. The answer is no. It stays shut. The only thing that happens is as Mr Petry explained above..

The boot is [should be] always locked when closed. What should change is the action of the button on the plinth to open it. When the car is locked, by the remote or you being locked in while driving, the button should not open the boot. It should also be deactivated if "valet mode" is activated. All other times it should open when pressed.
The phone, if it is one in the console in a cradle, is just a looker at this point. That is an analog phone that no company will activate anymore.
Cheers,
you can actually get the phone programmed...try pagepluscellular.com they will do it...it is about .04 a minute...i had my motorola timeport in my 2001 XJR programmed for a while...
