Does anybody know the proper colors for the following on a Series II E-type 2+2:

1. Pop rivets that secure the rubber sealing strips to the wheel well splash panels.

2. Pop rivets that secure the "D" shaped pieces that help attach the water and vacuum pipes at the bulkhead.

2. The color of the "D" shaped pieces that help attach the water and vacuum pipes at the bulkhead.

4. The bracket the air cleaner rests on at the rocker panel.

Thanks in advance.

Steve: I stripped the piece you mention in the above post of the red paint from a previous repaint and did not find any cream (original body color) paint. In fact I didn't find any Jaguar body color paint, just the cheap black paint Jaguar used on many of their underbonnet bits and pieces. I can only conclude the part was originally black. Since about 3/4" of this part shows on each side of the air filter can I might as well make it correct.

John,
If you are talking about the horizontal tubular support running diagonally directly underneath the canister, that accepts the attachment screw through the bottom center of the canster, and has a captive nylon speed nut to accept said screw, and is concealed and therefore not judged, it is not in the judge's guide. However, THBOMK, these were painted body color.
Good Luck!

Thanks Steve.

I read the part about the air filter but assumed the black bracket referred to the bracket that takes the two bolts into the side of the air cleaner canister. You are saying the bracket that goes under the air cleaner cannister is also black?

I guess I will use stainless pop rivets. Water and vacuum tubes are in good shape, thank goodness.

Oh, by the way, you were looking for data on whether the bolts holding the subframes to the body were ever painted body color. When I disassembled mine last month I discovered no original paint on any of mine. Car has a January 1969 build date.

John:
Item 1 - still unconfirmed, although I have a hard time accepting the black pop rivits. I recommend steel pop rivits to lesson the efforts of galvanic corrosion.

Item 2 - these pop rivits are also unconfirmed.

Item 3 - your second item 2 - just when I think I'm going too deep someone drives me deeper. The "D" shaped pieces were semi-gloss black. You might want to replace the pipes with the stainless ones which were available the last time I looked - if the regular pipes rust out you're in deep do do - they're a bear to replace with the engine and dash in place. Pipes should be black, but with the hoses on, no one will know if they're flourescent pink. I will update the guide to include these and their rivits.

Item 4 - Look under Air Filter Canister "secured to black painted bracket ...."

Hope this helps.
