1 wire alts have been around for 30 years, not 6 months.
A simple GM 1 wire with the old school casing, from the late 1960's to the mid 1970's is used.
They bolt right in the cradle where your stock alt is if you have no A/C.
You might need a washer/shim but for the most part , NAPA / PEP BOYS all have them from 60 dollars to 120 dollars depending on how much out put you want.. most go to around 100 amps if you go with a modern radio and speakers and other plug in devices in the car.
If you want to go crazy there is a mini version like mine for a/c units where the alt is turned around and clears under the hood bulge.They can go as high as 220 dollars, who cares, they last FOREVER.
Next, the internal regulator is built into the unit, They is one post, All you do is run the correct wire gage, I think today 8 gage? double check from THAT post to the POSITIVE POST below the heater box, That is it.
It self ignites, self regulates through the ONE WIRE connected to the post back feeding the battery. All those other wires are useless, just tape them back.
You can leave the old regulator in place with those wires hooked up to look stock, but because all the other ends are not connected, it wont do anything.
This trick has been around for decades. YOU CAN NOW PUT HALOGEN HEAD LIGHTS.
You wont believe the difference. Tie that with electronic ignition and the car will be upgraded 20 years.
So not to ramble, anything 12 volt negative earth , it will work fine.
Power gens, now makes new alts in old looking gen casings for the old dynamo cars/generators...but its a modern alt inside. They run around 500 dollars or so.

On a series 2 there are close to 13 hook ups, from the alt can on the fender to the 3 way wire up to the dash , back to the alt and battery post.......all gone...AND the wire grade is updated and thicker. Safe, easy and just a great thing to do.....
