I just bought a 2004 VDP and in anticipation of coming challenges wonder if the subject is failure-prone. I was told that there are aftermarket sources for repair/replacement parts that are considerably more reasonable that dealer parts. Can anyone tell me?

XJ8 air suspension
I would try two things:
First try "Jag-Bits" on line. They have a pretty comprehensive inventory of OEM parts for all years of Jaguars.
Second, enter the Jaguar part number into your search engine (Bing, Yahoo, Google, etc.). You'll find many sources for parts(new and used), ranging from E-Bay vendors to many individual parts warehouses.
I applaud your approach to parts shopping because my local dealer has presented me with several unexpected surprises over the years. For instance...$66.00/qt for transmission fluid.

Arnott rebuilds Jaguar aIr shocks for $399.00 plus a refundable core charge of $150.00. They have complete instructions on how to remove and install the new ones. Also a lifetime guarantee and new air pumps for $365.00
