Dan it stands for "High Efficiency" The v-12 engine was redesigned in 1981 in order to improve the fuel efficiency of the engine. This engine reportedly produced 299 brake HP and the modification did result in vastly improved gas mileage so much so that it became favorably close to that of the Straight six 4.2ltr Engine. Early models had the HE badge added to the boot lid to designate the installation of this improved engine. Later models still had the same high efficiency engine fitted but the use of the HE letters was dropped. Bob.
