Having owned this car for a couple of months now I have an overall good impression of it but for two errors. Wood grain interior does not belong on a 390 HP car, carbon fiber, or brushed aluminum would have been a far better choice. Secondly. it is too quiet, refinement has gone too far and taken the "fast car sensations" away in all new cars. Can anybody recommend a good exhaust system. I don't want anything too loud, but just enough noise to verify I'm driving an internal combustion powered car and not an electric motor driven one!

I must agree that the XKR/XJR exhaust note leaves something to be desired and I am envious of our Porsche cousins who have the dealer option of paying for, and installation ,of a dual tone exhaust note selectable system which can be opted in after-market ($3,000). We at JOASW are in the process of reverse-engineering a similar system at a much lower cost price. stay tuned...

Jaguar does offer the XKR with a carbon fiber dash and trim package and they offer some of the R models with a brushed aluminum trim package. I have never had any desire to buy a Jaguar without wood and leather, to me anyway, thats the whole point!
My thoughts are, I agree with you on the exhaust issue, Jaguar exhausts in general are muted, but that is because they cater to a luxury buyer and not to a sports car buyer. Most of their buyers are spending their $85,000 looking for an all around grand touring package. Pure sports car enthusiasts tend to go for 911s.

both XKs Unlimited and Terry's JAguar import goodies from Arden and paramount...
I've saidthat many times in the pat but I've come to appreciate the stealth qulities of the stock exhaust.. the way I drive it, the last thing I want is draw attention :-) when you get it over 4500rpm, the stock exhaust lets out a refined growl but nothing head turning loud.
wood... well...to each his own! :-) i love it... i think it adds a touch of refnement missign from ofther cars... but you can also easily replace that with stuff from Arden or Paramount.

One of the reasons I purchased my XKR is because it is luxury sports car. That being, it has the performance and style of a sports car with the ride and comfort of a luxury car. The fact that it is rather tame on the noise factor is a part of the luxury aspect which I wanted with the ability to step on it and move when I want or need to. I believe that was the intended market which this car caters to.
For brute force sports cars (and the associated rumble that should go with it), I have a few other cars for that. As has been mentioned before, that's what the tuner market is generally there for.
