Has anyone completed a conversion from generator to alternator and what are the complications. I have purchased a conversion kit from XK's and I have printed out a conversion for a Hitacji alternator. XK's is a Delco with one wire. Any insight would be extemely helpful!!
thanks

There are instructions right here on JCNA.COM for an inexpensive alternator conversion, as well as for positive to negative ground coversion:

The biggest challenge you will face is the radio.

Frank,
When I changed my 64 over to negative ground the only wiring that I recall that I switched was the fuel pump and amp meter.

Thanks Wolfgang
I am definately changing over to negative ground. did uou change the wires for the fuel pump? can you explain what you did for your ignition powered positive wire to feed your dash lights. how about the fuel guage?
you must see a big difference in night driving. one more question if you don't mind. i have tried many coils on my var and none of them work, ony the coil it has, old and no marking, i have tried Lucas and i have a MSD coil none work.
i drive my car as often as possible and i can tell you the windshield wipers work because i do not let rain interfere with my plans.
thanks again
frank

I forgot to mention that it would be good idea to convert car to negative ground if your car is positve ground. Or you can take that alternator to a local starter/alt shop and have the internal diodes changed so it would work with positive ground. E-mail me at wolf0323bellsouth.net for any other info that will help.

Hi Frank, I have a delco alternator on my car also and is no problem to install. Just connect large battery wire to back of alternator. My alternator was a so called single wire alternator but had a connector for the ignition powered posative wire. I hooked up this feed wire so the alt light on dash works and you dont have to rev engine over 2000 rpm to get alt to start charging. Wolfgang
Thanks Mike,
i have seen a few iterations on this conversion process. this will help greatly.
thanks again
