I need a recommendation for a set of tires for my car that doesn't break the bank. Also, I can not find the factory recommended tire pressure for my car. It is not listed on the inside of the driver's door panel.
I've been fighting a slight vibration on the highway when traveling 70mph or faster. I did have the wheels balanced 3 or 4 times now. Maybe it is the tires, maybe something else?

Any input is appreciated.

Hi Martin,
the more you ask the more you learn . ... the D40 M2 may be out of production, however Tire Rack deal in Dunlops I believe........ They have a toll free line I believe , and good phone guy's that usually know their stuff........The newer updated tyres should be even better than than the old ones........... get a treadwear rating somewhere around 200 if you want the car to really grip...........There is a business over here that does computer enhancing called The Driven Man ( I believe...) he is an agent for AJ6 engineering...... they even supply for a better price so it appears.that should help the 6 banger get going quicker..........I live on the West Coast up in BC, if you want call me . 604 465 7244....... Pacific Time. before 9 PM,
Happy New Year.........Art

Art,

I could not locate the tires you recommended online. (Dunlop... D40 M2). May I ask where I can purchase them?
Also, I will look into Bilsteins as well as anti-roll bars.
One more little issue I would like to address but problem can't fix. I have the 4 Liter engine which is great. Unfortunately, it doesn't wake up until you hit 3,500 rpm. Anything I can do to get a quicker response on the lower rpm without too much trouble? Boy, am I asking too much or what?

Hi Martin again.......
hey if you want to drive quicker in the turns or even anywhere go up to 40 in the front, the rears are along for the ride so dont worry about them too much.............also if you want put in a new set of Bilstein or koni adjustables........... make sure you can adjust them while they are installed, some Konis you cannot..........

An easy way to tighten up the feel in the corners is with anti-roll bar upgrades. Largers bars front and rear...or adding a rear bar if you don't already have one. Makes quite a difference with little damage to ride quality.

Since you are a "sporty" driver you'll probably want a V-rated wtire with stiff sidewalls so as to keep a nice crisp feel to the steering.

Top it off with some good performance shocks.

Cheers

In your owners handbook you should find a manual for your tires--or the ones supplied by the factory--35 front and 30 rear--interesting and I hate to ask byt why that spread? As far as "rolling" into corners there are all sorts of handling kits for these cars but they all compromise the feel of a stock car-and ride quality-remember they were Grand Tourers not sports cars.

Thank you for all the replies. I could not find the tire pressure guidelines in the manual and neither could my mechanic anywhere in his manuals. I will go with the 35 psi front and 30 rear and see how I like it. I do drive rather 'sporty'. That brings me to another point. I am not a big fan of 'rolling' into corners. What would be the best way to achieve better cornering?Right now it feels like I am driving a 1969 Lincoln rather than a Jaguar XJS.

I will try go get a set of Dunlops. Thanks for the Tip Art.

Hi Martin,
I would reccomend Dunlop, they are usually more cost effective and have good quality in my experience, also we won several Stock championships in JCNA Slalom using Dunlop... D40 M2 to be precise.........tyre pressures can be run how you wish the car to respond and feel.........depends on your driving style.......... I would say about 35 front and 30 rear........ try it and see if you like it.......... slalom go higher yet for sure......

Martin as far as the pressure it will depend on the tire you buy but since it seems that you are not going to buy the tire that was designed into the ride and suspension of the car it is a moot point. As far as the 3 or 4 times to the tire shop--perhaps it is time to find a new shop or seek help in finding the problem--I would think the tire shop would have suggested at the second visit. Good luck.
