While my SII engine is out of the car, I am replacing the clutch/refacing the flywheel and replacing the leaky sump gaskets. The car and engine were 'professionally restored' in 1990 with miles reported in 2004 at 77K. Current mileage is vague due to an apparent speedo change but thought to be about 85-100K. Are there any suggested other 'must do' items while the engine is out? Thanks - Alan

Thanks Cliff. I'm with you on most of that. The engine is out for a complete front frame replacement so while painting those we also painted the firewall (a DPO had painted everything black) and are painting or powder coating everything else to approximately the original color. I'm replacing the heater transfer pipes as we speak and the radiator/fans/exhaust/carbs were replaced or rebuilt a year ago. I'm also rebuilding the front suspension (new rack last year) and alternator and replacing brake hoses.

Alan,
When I was at that point I also did the following: 1) degreased the engine bay incl firewall, 2) replaced the radiator with a new aluminum one, 3) replaced the hot water crossover lines within the firewall with SS pipes, 4) replaced the exhaust system with a SS system, 5) rebuilt carbs, 6) added a 5-speed and A/C, and 7) replaced the fluids in the car.

Depending upon your comfort level and wallet, you can get by with doing only No. 1 and 7. I look forward to seeing from others what I've forgotten to mention.
