I have a 70 E-Type OTC with a 4.2, trip Webers and headers. Complete rebuild 12000 ml. ago. Runs great. I have read many posts about what type of oil should be used in these engines. Lead or no lead ect. I am using Castro GTX 20/50 and whould like some opinions about adding Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. Like most E-Type mine suffers from too little driving. Sits for 5 months in the summer without a turn.

any suggestions will be appreciated

Jerry

Thanks for the message Allen....I only wish you or your friend would have contacted me a couple months ago. My E-Type is consigned to the Houston Classic Auction down in Kemah, TX on May 1st.

http://www.wwgauctions.com/

Click on the Houston Classicauction tab and check the inventory list and you will find my car at lot #198. There are a lot of very nice cars in this auction. A very good friend on mine just delivered my E-Type down at the auction place today as I am stuck in Dallas and couldn't get free to deliver the car myself. Yes, a great friend. (He said the silver Series 3 E-Type in the auction barely ran...coughing and wheezing and blowing smoke.)

There are more photos at:
http://jagxke.wordpress.com/

Tell your friend that the auction begins at 1pm on May 1st, and more than likely, it will be shown in real time on their web site. He only needs to register to be a bidder. It will take 6 figures to get the car.

I've owned this car for 37 years, and have been keeping it in show condition since 2002. I've simply grown tired of the maintenance and of the rigors of showing. The car deserves better than what I am able to give it. I'm a builder / restorer, and after I've finished a car, I'm looking for my next. At 21, I could slip into this car quite easily...but at 59, it's just not the same thing...I think the car has shrunk :-).

There is a bit more on the restoration of my Jag at www.mcload.com if you or he are interested.

Thanks again!!

Hi Patrick, I have a friend who would be interested in purchasing your ots, he wondered if you have sold it as of yet? If not, how would he contact you ?

Gentlemen
Thank you one and all for your advice. I will go to an oil with a higher ZDDP. For the record I do put the car up on stands, change the oil, top off the gas and remove the battery before summer lockdown.

Jerry

Jerry, it would be nice if you could drive it a little more frequently but, I would suggest replacing the oil (any oil with a viscosity that suits your climate) when you lay her up. Do you raise it up off the tyres? Also, keep the gas tank FULL.

I like Valvoline VR1 20-50 Racing Oil (with ZDDP), available in most parts stores, recommended to me by a classics mechanic. But I'll never know whether he is right or wrong based on my limited driving.

Hi Jerry

No one knows for sure whether the old standard of 1200ppm ZDDP is necessary for Jags, but why take a chance? I believe your Castrol has 800ppm. Dont believe ZDDP tables on the Internet, because they have outdated values . Racing oils have 1200ppm ZDDP as do the oils Patrick suggests. I use Penn Grade 1 Racing oil, and many Jag owners use Valvoline VR1 Racing oil. I would use whatever high ZDDP oil is easy for you to get, and change or add extra ZDDP to your Castrol now.

As far as lead is concerned, my Dad bought a 1961 Mark II new, and used only Amoco unleaded gas in it. Engine was perfect when he sold it at 100k miles.

Drive your Jag
