My '67 E-type needs a tie rod replacement. Is this something an amatuer like myself should/can attempt or is it best left to a professional?

Dick and Patrick,
I am a fan of Bill Tracy and greatly appreciate the effort he has made reproducing hard-to-find parts for our XK's. Yes, his "CHENEY" hose clamps do look good but, to the best of my knowledge, they are made of stainless steel, not the original cad-plated mild steel. As a result, they don't look original because as-is, they are too smooth and shiny. They can be made to look more like the originals by dulling their finish by light grit blasting.

I don't know if they will look convincing, to all Judges, alongside original CHENEY's.

Good luck,

Bill Tracy had a bunch made and has been selling them on EBAY. Not sure if there are any currently listed but you can always call him in Florida. http://www.billtracyjaguar.com/parts.html and go to cooling system parts. Note that each of the clamps has the same stamping. So far I have not heard of anyone else noticing this. I guess I must be pretty anal to notice but they are a real nice looking clamp and they are brand new, not refinished used ones.

Great articles Dick! Although it has been sometime since I've needed them, I was not aware that someone is reproducing Cheney clamps. Who carries them?

Dave an expanded answer is that you will need to align the car and there is a good chance that if the tie rods are shot the rack itself may need new bushes. Good luck.
