30 minutes on idle in park and she starts to leak tranny fluid -at least a cup full. No leaks under normal driving conditions. Does not leak after engine has cooled. Any suggestions as to the source of the problem?

1987 Xj6 Dumping trans fluid
Patrick, sounds like the tranny is too full. If you just leave it sitting the fluid gets very hot and expands. Where does the leak seem to be coming from? Is it at the bell housing or drive shaft end? Which ever the case, it may just need to "leak" some down to level off. But depending on where it appears to be leaking, you probably will wind up with a blown seal or gasket. Check the fluid level on the stick when it is cold; then check again after it has just warmed up. The level should show overfull when cold but at the correct level at operating temperature. Also, are you parking on level ground or on a slope? Could be several things. Hope some of this helps!!
Why on earth would you have it sitting at idle for 30 minutes? It sound like the filter may be blocked causing frothing and eventual spillage. But. if it doesn't happen ay any other time !!!
