We have a 95 XJS 6 cy. convertible. The dealer says the front shocks are worn out. My local car repair shop who now does most of the work says they are not worn out, but that the rubber (like) bushings on the ends of the shocks are. They do click as I go down a rough road. My question is has anyone out there had any experience at replacing only the bushings? Also, does anyone out there have any advice about replacing the shocks with some type of aftermarket shocks that really improves the ride? Thank you very much for any help you might offer. RER

Personally I would just throw another set of shocks on there, usually newer is better for old shocks. either way it takes about the same time or even less if you do not have to bang / press out some old bushes. there are some automatic adjust "Sensatrac" shocks out there for not too much cash.. William is right. Common problem, easy fix.

However, there's little point in new bushings on worn out shocks, IF indeed they are worn out. How does it feel?

And, please define "...improves the ride". What improvement are you referring to and looking for? Softer? Firmer? More control?

Cheers
